Welcome to Gosport Gators Netball Club, a club of which we are very proud. There have been times over the years that the club was in danger of closing due to low numbers, lack of coaches and willing volunteers to stand for a committee role. Since then the club has gone from strength to strength to become popular and well respected in the community.
We are non profit making and try to keep costs down for our members. The mission for our club to provide netballing opportunities for our members so they can enjoy the game, have fun and gain a feeling of belonging.
We accept all ages and abilities in to the club and pride ourselves on our 'inclusion of all' ethic. Having said that we like to win too and work hard on helping all our members to realise their netball potential. We also spot talent and act as a feeder club; we have links to other clubs offering development pathways
CLUB ETHICS
Gosport Gators aims to provide the opportunity for players of all backgrounds and levels of ability to play netball. We provide a safe and friendly environment in which our members can develop and flourish both on and off the courts. We feel netball gives our members the opportunity to develop communication and team building skills. We encourage them to take on a leadership role by assisting in the development and mentoring of younger or less experienced players. We believe that the lessons that can be learned from sport can be drawn upon throughout all aspects of life.
Whilst we all like to win and a healthy competitive spirit is encouraged, Gators is more focused on encouraging each child to play to the best of their abilities and strive to achieve their own aims. We believe that recognition of reaching these goals is very important and we hold an annual presentation evening to give our members the opportunity to get together and celebrate each other’s achievements.
Strategic Initiative = BE KIND
Head Coach
I’m head coach Mel, I have been with the Gosport Gators Coaching team for 7 years, and within that time I have achieved my Level 1 and Level 2 coaching qualifications. I have worked mainly with the junior teams, but I hope to work further with the adult teams and the back to netballers when I can. I have played netball since junior school and I currently play within the Gosport league, Portsmouth league and also at Hampshire league being coached by some very experienced Hampshire and Regional coaches which only benefits my own coaching skills.
Coach
I joined GGNC about 15 years ago when my daughter started playing for the club. I hadn't played netball for about 30 years but got approached to help out with a team some of the parents had put together to play in a tournament. I got the bug and have played competitively ever since in the Gators Gold Team. I became a coach 'to help out' and went on to complete my level 1 and level 2 coaching certificate, stepping in to the Head Coach role when the club needed it and then into the Chairman role. I also run the Tuesday adult training session which encourages ladies to come back to netball.
Coach
I started to really play netball in college and quickly joined the first team and loved every minute. I started playing for a team in the Gosport league. Played for many years in both Gosport and Portsmouth league then ruptured my ACL. I had the surgery to repair but was terrified to go back to playing for about 18 months. I eventually plucked up enough courage to attend one of Hannah’s back to netball sessions at St Vincent’s and the rest is now history. She asked me to join her team after a week or so.
Junior Coaches
The Junior Coaches, are responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive team culture. They assist the Head Coaches in promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and good communication among athletes. They ensures that every athlete feels valued and supported.

As a parent, carer, and supporter of Gosport Gators Netball Club, I will work within the following guidelines:
■ Do not force an unwilling child to participate in netball.
■ Remember children are involved in netball for their enjoyment not yours.
■ Encourage your children to play to the rules and not to argue with umpires or other officials.
■ Teach your child that honest effort is more important than victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment. ■ Turn losing into winning by helping your child work towards skill improvement and good sportsmanship.
■ Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game.
■ Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good play by your team and by members of the opposition.
■ Do not question the umpire’s decisions or honesty. Remember he/she is only human with the same feelings as you, and like you, can sometimes make an honest error.
■ Recognise the importance and value of coaches who are all volunteers. They give children their time and resources to provide netball for your child.
■ Read the rules of netball to understand better what you are watching and commenting on.
■ Promote this code of conduct to other parents, carers and supporters.
